VPS price per GB of RAM — three tiers, 3 providers, one division per number

Three tiers, 4 providers priced in data/offers.json, 3 of them with a published spec. The entry tier runs $4.54 to $22.46 a month (4.95× apart) and $1.135 to $6.00 per GB of RAM (5.29×); the 2 vCPU / 4 GB tier $4.54 to $24.00 (5.29×) and $1.135 to $6.00 per GB (5.29×); the high tier $23.37 to $96.00 (4.11×) and $0.97375 to $6.00 per GB (6.16×). Every figure is a published price divided by a published spec.

This page answers one question — the price per GB of RAM, tier by tier. For the whole bill rather than the unit rate, see the full monthly cost of a VPS, which carries the same providers plus the add-ons and the renewal terms this page deliberately leaves out.

Three tiers, and who takes part in each

Entry is the cheapest plan a provider sells with a published spec, mid is an exact 2 vCPU / 4 GB match, high is the most expensive plan it sells with a published spec. A provider that cannot enter a tier is named under the table with the reason, so no row disappears quietly. Participant counts, spreads and the cheapest-per-GB name are all computed from data/offers.json on each build.

Not in this tier, and why:

Entry tier: what the headline price does not include

The entry plan is the one most likely to be bought on impulse, so it gets the full hidden-cost treatment. Read down a column to see what one provider charges on top of the plan price; where a page does not price something, the cell says so instead of guessing.

The renewal gap on the entry plan

A low entry price is often a first-term price. This table divides the published renewal rate by the published first-term rate; where the page publishes no renewal rate, the cell says cannot compute rather than assuming the price holds.

ProviderPlanPrice nowRenewalRenewal gapHow it is billed
DigitalOcean Basic 1 vCPU / 1 GiB $6.00 none published on the official page cannot compute Per-second billing, no annual commitment listed
OVHcloud VPS-1 $4.54 none published on the official page cannot compute 12 months paid upfront
ScalaHosting Build #1 $22.46 $54.95/mo 2.45× 12 months prepaid; renews at $54.95/mo

How the unit costs are calculated

Nothing is weighted, averaged or normalised beyond that division. Each unit cost is printed as the exact quotient wherever it terminates — $1.135 is 4.54 ÷ 4, $0.97375 is 23.37 ÷ 24 — and rounded half-up to four decimals only where it never terminates. The spreads are computed from the unrounded values.

What each official page says, word for word

The numbers above are only as good as the pages they came from, so here are the sentences they came from.

One caveat that changes the ranking

The three providers are not billed the same way, and the gap widens as you climb the tiers. OVHcloud's figures are 12-month-upfront rates on its own configurator, ScalaHosting's are 12-month-prepaid rates that renew higher, and DigitalOcean bills per second. A headline that is cheap because it locks in a year is not the same offer as one you can leave next month — that is why the billing-term row and the renewal gap sit in the tables above rather than in a footnote.
